At the recent 7th International Conference on Advances in Solidification Processes (ICASP7) in Madrid, AID4GREENEST researcher Dr. Aarne Pohjonen from the University of Oulu presented new insights into solidification-induced segregation and its impact on grain growth during the heating of forged steel components.

His poster showcased a cellular automata model developed to simulate how elemental segregation affects austenite formation and grain growth in large-scale steel parts.

This modelling work supports AID4GREENEST’s broader goal of using machine learning to predict microstructure evolution and creep performance in heat-resistant steels.

Dr. Pohjonen is part of the University of Oulu team contributing to the project, alongside Prof. Mahesh Somani and Rishabh Bharadwaj.

The 7th International Conference on Advances in Solidification Processes (ICASP7) was hosted by IMDEA Materials and held at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid from June 10–13.
